WASHINGTON, March 7 — King Abdullah II of Jordan made a passionate appeal on Wednesday for the United States to take the lead in pursuing Arab-Israeli peace, telling Congress that without progress on that issue, none of the Middle East’s other problems would be solved.
“Sixty years of Palestinian dispossession — 40 under occupation — a stop-and-go-peace process, all this has left a bitter legacy of disappointment and despair on all sides,” he said in a speech before a joint meeting of Congress.
